We are proud to be one of the few Tampa home builders with multiple green building certifications (FGBC Certifying Agent & NAHB Certified Green Building Professional), which allows us to assist those clients who want green features, and sustainable building practices and materials, in their projects.
Green building is a design concept which focuses on the efficient use of resources such as water, energy, and materials while reducing the buildings impact on health and the environment. This is accomplished through improved design, product selection, advanced construction methods, and proper placement upon the site.
Today is seems as though every company out there is touting themselves as "green". Although there are many companies who are embracing green and doing wonderful things, there are others who seem to just be telling us they are green while not really living up to their claims (there is even a web site called the Green Washing Index which rates the validity of company and product claims).
So, as a consumer, who do you pick?
A good home builder needs to understand the fundamentals of energy consumption, passive heating and cooling systems, natural ventilation systems, window location, shading, materials — even color can have a huge impact. They also need to understand the current pricing and what incentives are out there.
We believe you should look for sincerity, education, and experience.
Green Building Sincerity
First, if green building and remodeling concepts are important to you then you should choose to work with a company that is sincere about its green building program. At Charter Bay, we are sincere in our desire to see the benefits of green building improve the lives of our clients here in the Tampa area. We do not put ourselves out there as experts in all things green, but we have embraced green building, and have some unique green-based qualities we think have value to our clients.

As green building evolves, we believe it is important to work with a Tampa building contractor who is actively pursuing new green knowledge as it develops in the building industry. Green Building Experience
In selecting a Tampa builder or contractor to help you with your green project you should also look for someone who has experience in green building. The learning curve on green is pretty steep and having some experience can really help a client to have a more successful project.
In 2006 Eric Stockland, Chief Executive Officer of Charter Bay Homes, was involved in all aspects of producing the very first Green-Certified Showcase Home in the history of the Tampa Bay Builders Association Parade of Homes.
As pioneers in local green-building implementation, this was a significant accomplishment for the entire team. From concept design, through the selection of all of the green components for the home, and to final completion, it was a process in which everyone learned a tremendous amount about green building. The end result was an incredible 1.5 million dollar green home that incorporated more green features than any other home in Tampa Bay and still stands as one of the "greenest" homes in the Tampa Bay area today.
The experience gained from this home, plus being involved with the process of producing over ten other green homes which were built to meet the standards of the Florida Green Building Coalition, means Charter Bay’s clients have the ability to incorporate green building concepts into their projects in any manner they desire.
