Today is seems as though every remodeling company in the Tampa Bay area is touting themselves as "green". Although there are some remodelers who are embracing green and doing wonderful things, there are others who seem to just be telling us they are green while not really living up to their claims (there is even a web site called the Green Washing Index which rates the validity of company and product claims).
So, as a consumer looking to remodel your home, who do you pick?
A good remodeler needs to understand the fundamentals of energy consumption, passive heating and cooling systems, natural ventilation systems, window location, shading, materials — even color can have a huge impact. They also need to understand the current pricing and what incentives are out there.
We believe you should also look for sincerity, education, and experience.
Green Remodeling Sincerity
First, if green remodeling and green building concepts are important to you for your renovation project then you should choose to work with a remodeling company that is sincere about its green remodeling program. Green Building Experience
In selecting a remodeler to help with your green project you should also look for someone who has experience in green building. The learning curve on green is pretty steep and having some experience can really help a client to have a more successful project.
In 2006 Eric Stockland, Chief Executive Officer of Charter Bay Homes, was involved in all aspects of producing the very first Green-Certified Showcase Home in the history of the Tampa Bay Builders Association Parade of Homes.
As pioneers in local green-building implementation, this was a significant accomplishment for the entire team. From concept design, through the selection of all of the green components for the home, and to final completion, it was a process in which everyone learned a tremendous amount about green building. The end result was an incredible 1.5 million dollar green home that incorporated more green features than any other home in Tampa Bay and still stands as one of the "greenest" homes in Tampa today.
The experience gained from this home, plus being involved with the process of producing over ten other green homes which were built to meet the standards of the Florida Green Building Coalition, means Charter Bay’s clients have the ability to incorporate green remodeling concepts into their projects in any manner they desire.
