“As long as you and your crew are here working hard every day, I don’t care how long it takes you to finish.”

Whenever I say these words to new subcontractors, they’re always shocked. They’re used to hearing “faster, faster, faster”—but speed doesn’t equal quality. In fact, rushing usually leads to mistakes, and mistakes lead to problems down the road.

The block walls on our custom home project in Brooksville are nearly complete, and as the photos show, the quality of this installation is outstanding.

One of the easiest ways to spot bad block work is when the sun hits the wall at a sharp angle—it exposes every flaw, every misalignment, every block that’s out of plane. But in this case? Smooth, straight, and precise. That’s what happens when craftsmanship is the priority.

That matters for more than just aesthetics. Perfectly aligned block not only means the stucco will go on smoothly without waves or uneven spots, but it also helps prevent water from pooling in low areas or seeping into cracks, which can lead to moisture problems behind the stucco.

I’ve worked with this particular mason for over a decade, so no words are needed—he already knows my standard. Quality takes time, and at Charter Bay, we’ll take precision over speed every time.
