In nearly 30 years of building in Florida, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen someone watering a concrete slab after it was poured. It’s one of those little things that makes a big difference—yet almost nobody does it.
We always water our slabs because it slows down the drying process, preventing cracks and ensuring the concrete cures properly. If a slab dries too fast, it can shrink and develop cracks. Keeping it moist allows the chemical hydration process to continue, making the concrete stronger, more durable, and more resistant to surface dusting and water penetration. It’s a simple step that helps ensure a better final product.
At Charter Bay, we pride ourselves on “seeing around corners”—anticipating problems before they happen. Watering a slab is just one of those small but important details that separate a well-built home from an average one. A lot of builders overlook it. We don’t.
In the image above, that’s me out watering the freshly poured slab for the custom home we’re building in Brooksville. Seeing the owner of a home building company on-site watering the slab is not something you see every day, but it’s one of those small details that matter when building a high-quality home.
